Vanuatu Sea Freight |
Shipping to Vanuatu (previously named New Hebrides) stretches back for centuries but with the global change-over to containerisation, the primary port of goods arrival has become Port Vila. This deep water port is now the hub for cargo arrival and distribution. Vanuatu, being an isolated string of 83 small islands, relies heavily on shipping connections, especially those from New Zealand, Australia and Asia. However, many shipments come from far more distant shores which requires an additional hands-on coordination to make sure that the shipment is tracked and handled in the most expedient manner. International shipping is not a precise science, being at the mercy of extreme weather events, harbour backlogs, labour disputes and mechanical break-downs. These can all cause delays in arrival and departure dates and we try to keep our schedules page updated with the latest information. Fr8 Logistics have agents all over the globe ready to manage shipments at every stage both to and from Vanuatu. In addition to our Vanuatu offices, we also have an Auckland office, through which transhipments are possible to Vanuatu through our relationship with ECU Line, Auckland. Cargo routed via ECU Line Auckland will always be placed on the first available vessel (never more than three weekly rotation, with eleven day transit) and upon out-turn in Vanuatu, a cargo POD (or document POD) will be sent back to origin if this information is provided to enable this advice. An important aspect of the FR8 experience is that our agency is able to handle freight collect, which means that you (as importer) are able to not only spread your cashflows, but also take greater control over costs and methods of shipment. So if freight collect appeals, ensure you order your goods FOB rather than C&F (or CIF). If you don't understand these terms, please refer to our Freight Terminology section. If you have any requirements for sea freight shipments to or from Vanuatu, from project cargo to personal effects, please request a quotation. Have questions concerning sea freight? EMail Us |

DHL And FR8 Logistics At the beginning of 2014, DHL challenged FR8 Logistics to take on the role of Vanuatu’s DHL agent and elevate international express services to global standards. By mid 2015, Mark Komene, Country Manager, DHL Express Fiji and Pacific Islands was able to say, "I'm pleased to be back in Vanuatu and excited to be able to thank Chris Kernot and his FR8 Logistics Team for getting DHL back on track in Vanuatu." "Let me be clear. DHL asked Chris and the FR8 team to be our agent. We needed to rebuild and DHL considered FR8 Logistics as a stable and reliable service provider for our Vanuatu customers." "Chris and his team had a mammoth task ahead of them. Firstly, understanding DHL's global systems to move freight fast internationally. After months of training and rebuilding our business, I'm pleased to be able to confidently thank Chris and the FR8 Logistics team for getting DHL back to where we belong, as Vanuatu's premium international express service provider." Vanuatu Air Freight |
Air freight is an essential element of shipping in and out of Port Vila and the outlying islands. Air Vanuatu is the national carrier and provides a dedicated freight link to and from Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Fiji and the major islands of the Vanuatu group. Pacific Air Express is a freight only carrier with a greater capacity to transport oversized and project cargo than the Air Vanuatu flights. PAE flies every Thursday ex Brisbane. The aircraft that carry freight in and out of Vanuatu are usually Boeing 737-300’s which have limitations on both the size and weight of the freight they can carry. If priority cargo has to be freighted ASAP it is often the case that other cargo gets "bumped off”. In most cases, that cargo is carried on the following flight. When you make the choice to use FR8 to handle your air freight needs, you can be sure the goods will be on the next available flight and will be promptly and professionally handled in the manner that you specify. Once the cargo has reached its destination, FR8, or our agents, will carry out the next part of the process as soon as possible, whether it be obtaining Vanuatu Customs Clearances, delivery, storage or on forwarding as required. If you are looking at exporting or importing goods and other items please contact us for a quotation which includes advice on all freight related matters including the necessary documentation for export/import shipments and any possible quarantine requirements that may apply to your cargo. For flight details, freight sizes and weights, rates and other service details, please contact us for current information. Have questions concerning air freight? EMail Us |
Vanuatu Inter-Island Shipping |
Fr8 Logistics has extensive experience with the realities of inter-island shipping throughout Vanuatu. With over 80 separate islands and limited cargo and passenger services, the co-ordination of inter island shipping requires an intimate knowledge of the various options available to move cargo from one port to another. Steps have been taken to improve inter-island shipping services to islands such as Tanna, Santo and the more remote islands of Epi, Ambrym, Malekula, Gaua, Banks, Torres and Ambae. The same goes for supporting infrastructure such as wharves, storage and maintenance facilities. However, most of the outer island ports still have very limited shipping infrastructure. This can often mean that cargo is discharged onto a beach, rather than a wharf, and often even a beach is too tricky meaning that cargo has to be discharged, first onto a small lighter vessel, and then onto a shore. Packaging, package size, weight and identification are all crucial elements to be considered when sending cargo to the outer islands. Have questions concerning inter-island freight? EMail Us |
